June Top 10 Freebies: Summer Fun Freebies

Every month I list my favorite Top 10 freebies.

School's letting out this month so this month's freebie theme is "Summer Fun Freebies".

  As a working Mom, my kids who are 7 and 5 will spend their first month at home with a babysitter and then the remaining weeks at a fun summer camp close to our house.  Our goal for them is to be outside enjoying nature, playing kids games, swimming, overall to be a kid in a safe environment.  Employing a babysitter and summer camp is by no means cheap and even if you are a stay at home Mom trying to entertain kids who have spent the majority of the year in a structured environment can both be costly and frustrating for everyone concerned.  So here I list some fun free summer activities - bookmark this post and refer back often.   1. Go to the Library - You'd be amazed how much of what the kids learned at school during the academic year is lost during the summer, so encourage your kids to read during the summer and spend the day at the library.  Here are some ideas for the library:i) A million and one books for the kids to be entertained withii) check out some DVD's or gamesiii) Check out the free summer activity schedule at the libraryiv) free air conditioning to keep you cool

Grow your own vegetable garden - not only does this teach your kids about where vegetables come from but the responsibilities involved in growing your own free food.
10. Create a "summer buddy program" - Call around your Mommy network for play dates and friends to share in new activities and stave off boredom.

When they lose the gold wedding bands, a frenzied search and recovery mission begins!
Will Maximus and Pascal save the day and make it to the church in time?

Fun Inexpensive Family Time Ideas

Everyone in our household looks forward to the weekend. The weekends to us means no work and no school.

Since my husband and I both work out of the home during the week we use the weekend to catch up on family time. The kids love the weekend as they get to stay up late and wake up late - although that doesn't always happen as their internal clock has them up only half an hour later than their normal week day rise.  We spend a lot of time on sports, activities and get togethers with friends.

Family time doesn't have to cost a lot!  Here are some fun inexpensive family time ideas.

1. Head to the library and borrow some family reading books.

2. Have fun at your local park and meet some new friends while you are there

3. Take a family walk or bike ride around your neighborhood

4. Lowes and Home Depot offer free kids build-it activities at the weekend.  

5. Put together a lunch and have a picnic on the grass - even your own back yard works

6. While making dinner get the kids involved in the prep work and baking

7. Dust off those board games for hours of fun

8. Rent a movie from Redbox and grab a best pizza delivery

9.  Organize a pot luck dinner with friends and family - not only do you share in the food costs but you might find some new recipes

10. Pull out your arts and craft material and make birthday and occasion cards.  You will have fun in the process but also save money on buying expensive cards.

 Do you have an active duty, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guardsman in your family?
Any active duty, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guardsman is entitled to free admission under the Here's to the Heroes program courtesy of Anheuser Busch.  He or she need only register, either by clicking here and submitting his or her information or in the entrance plaza of participating parks, and show a Department of Defense photo ID. As many as three direct dependents of military personnel also are entitled to free admission. Dependents may take advantage of the offer without their service member, though an adult must accompany minor dependents, and dependent ages 10 and over must present valid dependent I.D. Where can you visit?Busch Gardens Williamsburg, SeaWorld San Antonio and Sesame Place are seasonal operations that will remain closed until spring 2012. Are you all starting to think about taxes?  I'm thinking but not budging yet!  However check this great tax freebie out .....

Walmart is working with the top two tax preparation companies, H&R Block Inc. and Jackson-Hewitt Tax Service Inc., to set up kiosks inside its stores where customers can have their tax returns done by trained preparers for Free!
