Review: Celebrate Chinese New Year with a Handstand with Kids Kit

I'm of Chinese descent and I struggled a little with my Chinese culture while growing up as a teenager, I now fully embrace my heritage, especially more so now that I have two little ones.  When I came across Handstand Kids on my search for fun things to do to celebrate Chinese New Year (February 3rd), I was excited to find that Handstand Kids offers international themed cookbook kits that introduce children to the culture, language, and cuisine of a new country. 

We were given the wonderful opportunity to review the Chinese Cookbook Kit to help us celebrate Chinese New Year. The Chinese Cookbook kit contains a cute takeout box filled with a pair of chopsticks and a Cook book, filled with recipes that made me want to run out to the store and grab all the ingredients so we can cook up a Chinese feast.

The cookbook was brightly colored and the little kids featured on the cover caught my children's eye immediately.  These are the Handstand kids who offer helpful hints about cooking for special diets and finding ways to use cooking skills to support the community.  We went through each recipe and decided to try the "Rice into Shrimp Fried Rice" recipe.  My daughter helped me add the eggs to the dish and my son helped peel the carrots.  I learnt how to cook through helping my parents throughout my childhood and want to share and pass down my love of cooking (when I'm not frazzled from work) to them.  The end result was delicious, I don't normally add garlic and ginger to my fried rice so the additional ingredients actually added a new dimension.
