I'm a Coppertone Water Mom

1 quart blueberries, washed

1 cantalope, cut into 1-inch cubes

15 skewers

Directions

Slide fruit onto skewers: Alternate the blueberries, strawberries and melon chunks with two or three brownie pieces for each skewer.  Recipe makes 15 skewers.  For small children make sure you remove the skewers before serving.

Dawn® Power Clean™ 5 Minute Challenge and Time Saving Routines #DawnPowerClean #ad

Move over Rachel Ray, I'm a 29 minute or less cooking mama.  After work its a race against the clock to get dinner started, eat, clean up and play with the kids before the bedtime routines kick in.  Clean up comes with cooking.  Its a chore but its easier for me to do it as I'm faster and more efficient.  Clean up is my least favorite part of meal time but oh so necessary.  While I have a dishwasher, I tend to wash my dishes the old fashion way (using a little elbow grease).  This is especially required for big dishes such as my wok that would otherwise fill up my dishwasher quickly.  I love a good stir fry and these dishes fit well within my 29 minute or less meal making but clean up can be cumbersome.

Other tips that help me be more efficient to save time on my daily kitchen routine include:

1. Have a menu for the week so there's no having to run to the store during the week which will eat into my week night time.

2. Keep the kitchen clean - this allows no distraction from the task at hand i.e. cooking

3. I put out the cereal bowls and cereal on the kitchen table the night before so everything is ready to go in the morning.

4. I make lunches the night before to prevent a morning scramble

5. Make large meals so we can have leftovers for lunch the next day and freeze for another meal.

Sass Yourself Slim Book Review

I have a desk job and I find myself snacking a lot.  There's always cake for anniversary's or candy around.  Does this sound familiar? Over the last few years the extra snacking has certainly tipped my scales in the wrong direction.  We're heading to a long weekend getaway without the kids next month and both hubby and I need to lose some extra weight so we can enjoy this trip to the fullest. 

I was given the opportunity to review the book S.A.S.S Youself Slim by Cynthia Sass.  The program promises up to an 8lb loss in the first five days. This certainly is appealing considering I can shift 1lb up or down with the wind.  The plan consists of a 5 day plan that jump starts your results.  You eat only 5 foods (raspberries, eggs, almonds, spinach and yogurt) for 5 days and if followed correctly will lose up to 7 lbs.  I'm sure its not for everyone but like me I want quick results because it motivates me to maintain it and lose more.  Cynthia has put together four daily delicious meals (scrambled egg, parfait, salad and smoothie) that you can repeat for the remaining 4 days which makes it simple for those 5 days.  It does have you drinking a smoothie at 10pm at night though.  The timing of the meals is as important as the food but its worth a shot for the weight loss goal.

Then you move onto the 25 day plan which helps you change the way you eat in a less dramatic fashion.  The 25 day plan calls for 4 meals a day, but not draws from a broad but specific array of food choices.  You may be able to drop a size in just one month! If you want to take control of your eating habits then this book is for you!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Couponing

I've been a couponer for as long as I can remember.

My Mom was and still is a big couponer and collector of freebies and so from experiencing this throughout my childhood this trait has been passed on naturally to me. The reason for my Mom's deal seeking activities was not for fun or as a hobby but as a necessity because our household of four were living off one chef's paycheck.  My mom would cut coupons from the paper to lower our grocery bills and collect any kind of tokens in the paper for free toys and paraphenalia. While I never had the branded sneakers or barbie toys that my friends had my mom was able to provide us with healthy home cooked meals and clothes on our back.

No Bake Key Lime Cheesecake Bars Review & Giveaway

Every Christmas my husband's godmother sends over a divine Cherry Cheesecake for our families to enjoy on Christmas eve.  She makes it from scratch and everyone looks forward to the cheesecake each year even making room after Christmas dinner for this delight.  I do have a copy of the recipe but it looks complicated and I don't really have the time to bake a cheesecake.

Spring into Action and Love the Moment at Virginia Beach #momsloveabeach

 

This year is our year.  We'll have been married 10 years this June and I'm starting to think of a family vacation getaway to celebrate.  Living on the East coast we are beach people.  We live over an hour drive from the beach and in the summer we love to head over at the weekend to feel the sand between our toes, catch some surf and soak up the rays.  A family getaway for me often involves the beach - with two little ones the beach is one big playground and it allows mom and dad some relaxation time as they build sand castles and run back and forth to gather sea water to surround the castle.

We haven't quite finalized our celebratory getaway but Virginia Beach sure sounds like a fabulous place to visit with the kids.  We have family in Virginia and a road trip to visit my brother-in-law and then head onto a getaway will sure kill two birds with one stone.  I went online to http://www.visitvirginiabeach.com/ for some research and found some fun things for us to do at Virginia Beach:

Fly a kite, skate the ramp or relax with a picnic lunch at Mount Trashmore Park.

There are many beaches that surely cannot all be visited in one vacation.  For fun family tourist beaches I'll probably check out the Resort Area beaches first.  For some quiet time we can head south 15 miles to the Sandbridge/Pungo area and once the kids need some calm waters the Chesapeake bay area appear tranquil.

The best part of a getaway is that I won't need to cook.  When we head to the shore seafood is on our list as it has to be fresher than inland.  I'm sure coastal Virginia is a foodie’s paradise, and will offer us plenty to keep us all happy.  If we can convince my brother-in-law to come and help with babysitting then the Coastal Food Tours of Virginia would be an awesome experience.
