Review: Tie Buddies

There's 3 more weeks before my 5 year old son starts Kindergarten. I'm not really ready for it all but slowly I've been working down my list to help get my son prepared for Kindergarten.

One of the items on my list was to teach my son how to tie shoe laces.  This is not a prerequisite for Kindergarten but my son has been doing a lot of firsts lately e.g. taking a shower by himself and riding his bike with the neighborhood kids and so I'm now moving him onto another new first.  I picked up a pair of big boy sneakers with laces a few months ago for Kindergarten but had been procrastinating on teaching him as I couldn't quite figure out how to teach him without us both getting frustrated.  I researched online to see what the best method would be and instead found a fun product called Tie Buddies™ that was designed by another Mom.
Wendy, the inventor of Tie Buddies™ kindly sent me a pair to help get my son ready for his big boy sneakers with laces.  My husband and I were pleasantly surprised when we received the package as the instructions were very clear and so simple too - now why did we not come up with this idea ; ).

Here is a clip of my husband teaching my son.

Can you believe my son got it on the first try.  Well I have the video clip to prove it.

What’s the big deal you ask? Tie Buddies™ eliminate the “bunny-ears” or loops which cause much of the difficulty for children.  Once my son gets the hang of the Tie Buddies™ I can move him onto making the bunny ears for himself.  But in the meantime, I feel secure knowing that my son will be able to tie his own shoes at Kindergarten.

My daughter is 3 and I'm pretty sure she can catch onto this quick too.

There are two designs to choose from and each package contains 2 sets:

Red and Green Race cars for the boys

and Fairy and Magic Wands for the girls

Take a look at the online store,  $8.99 + shipping and handling is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Disclosure: I was provided a pack of Tie Buddies for our review and was not compensated for this post.  All opinions are of our own.

Look out for my other Back to school reviews/articles this August
