Plan ahead for your Summer Vacation for great savings

While Punxsutawney Phil (PA Ground hog) saw his shadow this week which means 6 more weeks of winter it doesn't matter to me as I already have my summer vacation planned out.  That alone has me thinking past winter and straight onto summer bypassing spring.  We're heading back to England this summer for a family vacation.  My friend is getting married so we're excited to go to the wedding (kid friendly wedding too) and also see my family and friends.  This trip is not going to be cheap especially with the Olympics taking place in London this summer but where there is a will there is a way.

A cheap holidays is hard to come by but with some planning this can be achieved.  If heading abroad purchase your airline ticket more than 6 months ahead of time - preferably a year in advance.  This will also give you flexibility in your seating arrangements especially if you have special need for the bulk head or a large party to accomodate.

While many swear by Dave Ramsey's non-use of credit cards I'm afraid I do the opposite.  I'm pretty good at balancing the books at the end of the month and that savings cushion sure helps.  So a credit card works for me as not only does it mean I don't have to carry wads of cash in my already overfilled wallet thats taken over by coupons but I also make a little extra for spending on my card.  We put everything on our card each month and this has resulted in us bring able to cash out and use the money towards 4 airfare tickets.

Google your international destination and look for free events.  Simply walking around and sightseeing is a free event.  Most museums offer free entrance and this is often a welcome to those who want to get out of the elements and relax.  Often walking the unbeaten path away from touristy areas will save you money as you pay local prices instead of artificially inflated tourist prices.  Staying a little further out of the main town will also reduce your hotel bill.

Consider participating in a house share to cut costs.  There are many sites out there to help you find the perfect match.  It will be a home away from home as you'll have access to all the conveniences of your home but be in someone else's instead.
