Spring into Action and Love the Moment at Virginia Beach #momsloveabeach

This year is our year.  We'll have been married 10 years this June and I'm starting to think of a family vacation getaway to celebrate.  Living on the East coast we are beach people.  We live over an hour drive from the beach and in the summer we love to head over at the weekend to feel the sand between our toes, catch some surf and soak up the rays.  A family getaway for me often involves the beach - with two little ones the beach is one big playground and it allows mom and dad some relaxation time as they build sand castles and run back and forth to gather sea water to surround the castle.

We haven't quite finalized our celebratory getaway but Virginia Beach sure sounds like a fabulous place to visit with the kids.  We have family in Virginia and a road trip to visit my brother-in-law and then head onto a getaway will sure kill two birds with one stone.  I went online to http://www.visitvirginiabeach.com/ for some research and found some fun things for us to do at Virginia Beach:

Splash around at the Ocean Breeze Waterpark.

The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center is a must see. Our kids love visiting ocean wildlife. The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center hosts over 800,000 gallons of aquariums and live animal habitats focusing on Virginia’s diverse and unique marine environment.

Catch a little something for dinner at the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier, or crabbing in the Chesapeake Bay from Lynnhaven Fishing Pier.

Fly a kite, skate the ramp or relax with a picnic lunch at Mount Trashmore Park.

There are many beaches that surely cannot all be visited in one vacation.  For fun family tourist beaches I'll probably check out the Resort Area beaches first.  For some quiet time we can head south 15 miles to the Sandbridge/Pungo area and once the kids need some calm waters the Chesapeake bay area appear tranquil.

The best part of a getaway is that I won't need to cook.  When we head to the shore seafood is on our list as it has to be fresher than inland.  I'm sure coastal Virginia is a foodie’s paradise, and will offer us plenty to keep us all happy.  If we can convince my brother-in-law to come and help with babysitting then the Coastal Food Tours of Virginia would be an awesome experience.

Have you made your way over to Virginia to experience their beaches?

What does Mother's Day mean to you?  For me its about celebrating the women in my life.  My mom because she raised my brother and I on a chefs wage while living in a foreign country.  My mother-in-law because she raised 6 kids on a mechanics wage.  I also celebrate my sister-in-laws, aunts and cousins who all are wonderful moms.  For Mother's day I usually receive flowers and thoughtful gifts from the children.  My husband puts a lot of thought which is really nice because I have a hard time finding gifts for my husband for Father's day.

This Mother's Day how about rewarding yourself.  As a busy working mom I often put my family's needs ahead of my own.  Its not hard to do because my children are so little and need me.  My husband has a busy job which involves a lot of travel and he needs me too.  Every once in a while I have to put me first and I'll splurge on something for me.  This Mother's day take the time to reconnect with yourself and your loved one with some fun products from EdenFantasys

Star Wars Fighter Pods Review

We recently went to see Star Wars - The Phantom Menace in 3D (Episode One).  This was the first Star Wars movie for my children and my son loved it.  My daughter was not impressed but that's because she's a girly girl.  I grew up watching the original Star Wars and was so glad to see my son take an interest.

When I was given an opportunity to review the new Star Wars Fighter Pods I jumped at the chance because my son talks often about having a Star Wars themed birthday party.  I made a big deal about the mail man coming and being that I've been blogging for over 2 years they know that the mail man brings them fun toys to play with.  My son looked at the Star Wars Fighter Pods and said "Yay I love these - Riley has these".  Here I thought I was introducing these new toys and instead he had already been playing with them at his buddies house down the street!  Even still, he ripped opened the package and played with them straight away and couldn't wait to take them down the street to his friends house.

These Fighter Pods are miniature collectible versions of the Star Wars characters from all six “Star Wars” films and “The Clone Wars” animated series. The miniature characters come with battle pods that are used to knock down as many of your opponent’s figures as possible by spinning, launching or rolling the pods into battle. More than 100 Star Wars Fighter Pods figures are available so kids can collect them, set them up and knock them down in head-to-head battling play. Whether challenging neighbors to epic battles in the driveway or setting up a galaxy of characters at the park, Star Wars We love that the fighter pods are portable and can be taken on our road trips. My son and his friend have a great time coming up with mock battles.  Toys that nurture endless house of creative play is a good thing in our household!

BUY IT
The Star Wars Fighter Pods retail from $2.99 – $14.99 and you can purchase it online at the Hasbro website or on Amazon. Be sure to check out the Where to buy page to see all of the retailers that carry them.

Disclosure: I received a Star Wars Fighter Pods to facilitate my honest review.  All other opinions may vary.

Mother's Day Giveaway: Care4Hire Gift Certificate

This summer I'm looking for a babysitter.  I hope to give my kids a little break after school breaks so they can chill at the house and just be a kid.  I did not have any planned activities as a child during the summer.  I made my own activities up with the neighborhood kids and as long as I came home at lunch time and before dinner time all was good.  Times are different now and since kids cannot roam around freely for fear of predators and other dangers, we parents have to find activities to keep them busy.  However, during the school year I felt my preschooler and 1st grader have been busy enough from school work and extra curricular activities such as baseball, gymnastics and soccer and soon will need a little break before we send them to summer camp.  For the month of June I intend to find a college student to come to my house and watch my little ones.  I'd also love for the babysitter to be able to drive them to some free activities such as the movies, library and the park to break up the day.

We live in a neighborhood where there are no college aged kids and so I'm having a hard time trying to find a suitable candidate.  I'd prefer to find a sitter through word of mouth but have turned to Care4hire.com because they make finding a caregiver safe and simple.  I joined Care4hire and immediately received access to babysitters, pet sitters, housekeepers and tutors near you.  I simply updated my profile with what my needs are and soon after I received matches.  Preview the site with their free 7 day preview.  This gives you access to post a profile about your family for caregivers to view. The caregivers will have access to send you a message with interest in your job. This gives you the convenience to see the type of response you will get, before actually paying the fee. In order to contact caregivers you will need to  sign up for their paid membership.  A yearly membership is the best value at only $79.99 or simply pay $19.99 monthly.  Right now I have two good babysitter leads and the site has some good advice on the interview process.  As a mother the candidates that post pictures and detailed profiles, live close to me and show references are my top picks so making the review process a lot easier.

Care4hire not only offers babysitting matches but also offers a database for those looking for a housekeeper, tutor, pet sitter and adult caregiver and more.  Sign up here now for your household needs.

This Mother's Day do away with flowers, chocolates or anything ordinary. Why not really pamper mom and get her something she deserves - a break! (1) Lucky reader will receive a Gift Certificate for free membership ($29.99 retail value) to Care4hire.com; which gives the recipient 1 month to login and contact caregivers.  Simply enter to win through the rafflecopter form below. a Rafflecopter giveaway
